Why become a member?

YOU ARE ALREADY RETIRED OR ABOUT TO BE:

 THE SECTION OF FORMER OFFICIALS OF THE ILO

 IS YOUR PARTNER ASSOCIATION

Created in 1985, the Section has some 900 members from all over the world.

It offers you:

a) Updated information on questions of direct interest to retirees:

  • the Pension Fund (a member of the Bureau of the Section sits as an observer in the ILO Staff Pension Committee);
  • the Staff Health Insurance Fund;

by means of its bilingual bulletin, Message to former officials (two annual issues), as well as topical information circulars forwarded by mail, e-mail or posted on the website.

b) Specific information and individual advice in reply to the very numerous individual cases submitted by its members: installation problems; taxation, pension eligibility, benefits provided by both the Health Fund and a national insurance scheme.

c) Protection of your rights and monitoring of files with the Pension Fund, the Health Fund, national administrations, etc.

d) Advice and assistance on access:

  • to the Emergency Fund of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund;
  • to the Special Payments Fund (ILO Pensions Section) – Assistance to retired persons or to their surviving spouses;
  • to the Solidarity Fund of the Section of Former Officials of the ILO;
  • to the ILO Staff Union Assistance Fund.

e) In the event of death:

Unless otherwise desired by the interested party, the surviving spouses of members of the Section of Former Officials automatically become members at no charge. They will therefore continue to receive our communications as well as the semi-annual issue of the Message. In case of need, they will be able to request the assistance of the Bureau of the Section which will do its best to help them.

YOU HAVE WORKED FOR THE ILO: OUR SECTION IS THE ONE FOR YOU

WHY A SECTION OF FORMER OFFICIALS?

There is no reason why your departure on retirement or to assume a new professional position should lead to a definitive break with the ILO; it is completely natural for former officials or experts of the Organization to which they have devoted years of their life to wish to maintain a DIRECT CONNECTION with the Office. Do they not wish to pursue their interest in the development of the sectors covered by the services in which they have collaborated, maintain relations with former colleagues in a familiar environment, be acquainted with their “successors”, obtain, or in fact themselves offer, advice and assistance on dealing with any question concerning the administration of the ILO, the Health Fund, the Pension Fund or even the national or local public authorities?

MAINTAIN CONNECTION AND SOLIDARITY:

THATS THE MAINSPRING OF THE SECTION OF FORMER OFFICIALS

WHO ARE OUR MEMBERS?

By “former official” we mean any person who has worked for the Organization during their career (retirees or persons having changed their employment if they are of retirement or pre-retirement age, officials of all ranks and all categories, experts, locally engaged officials, consultants) whose contract is now terminated. Active officials may enrol as supporting members.

HOW DO WE COMMUNICATE?

A bilingual periodical, Message to former officials receives very special attention. Appearing twice yearly, printed in over 3,500 copies, the Message contains about 100 pages and contains abundant articles of interest to both former and “active” officials. All are cordially invited to contribute (informative data, news, remembrances, narratives, anecdotes, poetry, translation of articles.) The Section also publishes information circulars on basic subjects. Whenever circumstances allow, we endeavour to bring together those of our member friends who have the occasion to visit Geneva. All publications of Message are available on our wesite.

WEBSITE: http://www.anciens-bit-ilo.org

The site will improve communication between the Bureau and retired staff. The relevant information at our disposal will quickly be posted on our website (particularly regarding the Health Fund [SHIF], Pension Fund [UNJSPF] and taxation, etc.). It also helps to create a community of former ILO officials (photo albums of events will be posted regularly). Finally, the third objective is to facilitate access to useful websites and the information they contain, such as SHIF, UNJSPF.

TEN MEMBERS OF THE BUREAU OF THE SECTION

IN THE SERVICE OF EVERYONE

The Bureau of the Section is composed of ten members elected for a period of two years by all members of the Section: one Executive Secretary, two assistant Executive Secretaries, one Treasurer, one Assistant Treasurer and five members. The Bureau meets twice monthly, on Wednesday, to plan activities, decide policies to be pursued, measures to be taken to defend the interests of members and to deal with all individual cases.

Make an appointment, telephone or write to us (letter, e-mail.) The members of the Bureau are prepared to provide you with assistance and advice in all the cases mentioned above. The list of our members is also available to you upon request.
